Austin was originally named Waterloo by the pioneers in the 1830′s.  It wasn’t until the small town of Waterloo became the capitol of the Republic of Texas that the town was renamed to pay tribute to the “father of Texas” – Stephen F. Austin has remained the Capital of Texas but also became the Live Music Capital of the World, a title the city holds dear.  For a taste of live music just take a trip downtown and around town – there’s plenty to be heard.
