Since 1972 I have lived in Austin Texas and its surrounding towns – well, there was a time when I was in Houston for a spell. Plus, we won’t mention the 10 months I lived up north where it snowed! You will find there are many names for the same road which is very confusing if you aren’t from around here. Mopac is also Loop 1 and 45 (in Round Rock); Highway 183 is Research and Ed Bluestein; FM 2222 is Koenig Lane and 290E to Manor. The name of the road depends on who you ask and how long they’ve been around Austin. Outside If you like the outdoors we have Lake Austin, Town Lake, Mount Bonnell, Lake Travis, Barton Springs – you can swim, jump off rocks, climb rocks and witness some of the best sunsets while sitting on top of rocks. If you live on the west side of Highway 35 you will learn about rocks fast when you try and dig a hole.

Austin was originally named Waterloo by the pioneers in the 1830′s. It wasn’t until the small town of Waterloo became the capitol of the Republic of Texas that the town was renamed to pay tribute to the “father of Texas” – Stephen F. Austin. Austin has remained the Capital of Texas but also became the Live Music Capital of the World, a title the city holds dear. For a taste of live music just take a trip downtown and around town – there’s plenty to be heard.
